Still life art
As you can read on the wikipedia, still life art is a work of art
depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace
objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks,
or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry,
coins, pipes, and so on) in an artificial setting.
Through the years as an artist i have depicted many of these things
that i mentioned above. In a way most of the art is still life. If you
paint a landscape painting, even if there is a river in the composition
you have to freeze the water still, so that the whole landscape is
becoming still. As long as it is not possible to use paint that can move,
every painting is some kind of still life.
The idea behind still life i guess is that it makes it more easy for the
galleries to describe different kind of art. And still life means as mentioned
depicting things that are still or dead. Some artists like to paint still life of
dead things, like skulls or even dead birds and so on.
