Prints, lithography or so-called litho
Prints is usually called litho in Norway. I think prints is a fun way of
making art. To get a good result working with prints, you often need
to take some chances during the prosess.
The prints shown on this website have been made in the traditional
way.
The way i made them is by first draw on a flat stone. And then
put on colour on the same stone. And finally transfere the colour by running papers through a machine that put a high press on the paper
against the stone.
To make prints with many colours, you need to make a drawing for each colour. Here is where the problems start.
As you can see, i have made som prints in only one colour or just black and white. The idea behind this is to make the impression that the print
is a drawing, or at least be able to get a result that looks like an original drawing.
It has been some years ago since i last made a new art print. The reason why
is because i feel the print market in Norway is some kind of overloaded, or what to call it. What has happened is that an internet auction gallery is buying
prints directly from artists at low costs, and then put them out on the internet auction where anyone can buy prints a lot cheaper than the usual gallery price.
This is ofcourse good for the artists for a while, because we/they get rid of
a lot of prints fast.
The problem is that it is a lot more difficult to sell prints at the ordinary galleries. And the buyer will often rather buy a print of an artist which is a little bit famous than from the unknown artist. Because everyone can buy through the internet, they can buy prints which they never could get at their local gallery earlier.
